JOB SUMMARY
- The Accounting Manager provides oversight of the financial functions of Hope Ministries and its subsidiaries, in accordance with the intent and directives found in its Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Statement of Faith and Mission Statement. The scope of responsibilities includes financial oversight and reporting, along with supervision of relevant Administration staff.
- The Accounting Manager is accountable to, and reports to, the Director of Operations.
- The Accounting Manager will supervise the activities of the Accounting/Payroll
- Coordinator in full, and the Administrative Associate in specific areas relevant to Hope
- Ministries’ financial and accounting functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting activities of Hope Ministries’ Administration staff. This may include, but is not restricted to: processing of invoices, payment of vendors, managing expense requests, updating accounting records, transporting funds to/from banks (either in person or electronically), and managing bank lockbox activity.
- Oversee the generation of month-end statements (in coordination with our accounting partner) and preparations for Hope Ministries’ annual audit (in coordination with our auditing partner).
- Supervise the work of relevant Administration staff members to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors, or problems as they arise. Provide guidance in handling difficult or complex problems.
- Provide guidance and training to Hope Ministries staff in other departments to ensure correct application of organizational financial policies and procedures.
- Review records or reports pertaining to day-to-day accounting activities to verify details, monitor work activities, or evaluate employee performance. Discuss job performance issues with relevant Administration staff and the Director of Operations to identify their issues and causes, and to work on resolving them.
- Work in a spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance with all other staff members of Hope Ministries and its subsidiaries.
- Participate in the spiritual growth and Christian instruction of those whom Hope Ministries serves. This can include (but is not restricted to) personal mentoring, the sharing of Scripture and Biblical encouragement, and praying with program participants. This may be in a structured setting (i.e., a classroom or chapel), or unstructured, with individual clients as the need arises.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or the President/CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Spiritual Qualifications: Must have a lifestyle that demonstrates moral and ethical adherence to the teachings of the Bible and an expressed desire to minister to those who are poor, needy and homeless.
- Education: Four-year degree in accounting or related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
General Experience:
- Required: Relevant real-world experience in accounting and/or finance.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Desired: Experience with Sage 50 or QuickBooks accounting software.
- Real-world familiarity with non-profit accounting.
