Job Description
The Senior Commodity Manager develops, and implements commodity/categories strategies that support the University’s supply chain including but not limited to travel, print, contract labor, marketing, advertising, professional services, office supplies, office equipment, uniforms, leases, maintenance, telecommunications, IT software and IT hardware, etc. The Sr. Commodity Manager evaluates market conditions to maintain an appropriate inventory of preferred vendors for which the University community can purchase from, strategically negotiates contracts to control costs and deliver on value-added services important to the customer; evaluates and recommends vendors as well as serves in a leadership role on various RFP’s; RFI’s; and manages ongoing relationships with suppliers.
Duties include
Plans, organizes and manages both strategic and tactical sourcing and procurement efforts. Evaluates and selects suppliers and service providers capable of meeting specifications and business requirements. Works to ensure Quality Assurance, ensure detailed end customer feedback is communicated to suppliers for future corrective actions. Develops and completes Total Cost Models (TCM’s) and other financial analyses to support negotiations and assisting evaluation teams in understanding the full results of a competitive event so the best supplier is selected.
Executes any relevant Procurement initiatives (RFIs or RFPs) including but not limited to soliciting quotations and bids in accordance with federal and state laws as well as University policies and procedures, recommends suppliers or service providers, evaluating quotations, negotiating pricing, conducting cost analysis and ensures all necessary legal agreements are executed in partnership with Contracts Management. Develop high level negotiation strategies and partner with legal/Contract Management to execute contracts. Ensure a customer focused attitude to internal stakeholders with a focus on balancing costs and service levels.
Lead projects focused on reducing waste, improving efficiency and effectiveness, and customer service of the Procurement function. This includes leading projects with a detailed plan and successfully leading teams through all phases, culminating with a completed close-out of projects. Support of continuous improvement initiatives around sourcing techniques and strategies as well as using tools like – TQM, SPS, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Value Engineering/Value Analysis, etc.
Coordinate with Manager of Purchasing to prepare any necessary agreements supporting overall supply chain goals and objectives, problem solving and issue resolution with suppliers as necessary.

Successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
Proven success in identification, selection, and integration of global suppliers.
Specific knowledge and experience with various direct materials and services commodities.
Proven ability to develop and negotiate contractual documents.
Demonstrated ability to manage/lead multiple projects and changing priorities.
Strong proficiency in all MS Office packages, Oracle, SAP or other related ERP databases
Extensive knowledge of strategic sourcing practices and principles including indirect sourcing plan development and spend analysis.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply chain management or business preferred
Minimum of 6 years of procurement or finance experience required

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred certification may include CPM, CPSM, or equivalent
