The Safety Director is responsible for all aspects of Ridgewater College’s safety, environmental health, and emergency management coordination, including internal occupational safety and environmental programs, comprehensive emergency preparedness, continuity of operations plans and emergency procedures.  This includes identifying vulnerabilities in the workplace, inspection and recommending and implementing programs to ensure a safe workplace for the campus community, compliance with all applicable federal and state environmental health and occupational safety regulations, implementation of security and emergency management requirements and best practices, and record keeping according to established guidelines.

Responsibilities include:

Assess workplace occupational health and safety and environmental health hazards, including hazardous waste generation and handling responsibilities and regular inspections to rectify potential hazards and verify and ensure the campus is in compliance with local, state and federal standards and regulations. Assess campus security, special event and emergency management hazards, vulnerabilities and/or risks and recommend strategies and actions to prevent and/or mitigate the impact of these events on the campus community and resume day-to-day functions as quickly as possible. 
Develop, write, and implement campus specific security, all-hazards emergency management, occupational safety and environmental health and hazardous waste programs, plans, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Minnesota State policies. 
In coordination with the Enterprise Learning Management (ELM) Coordinator at the system office, develop, conduct, coordinate and evaluate new employee, annual, and refresher training for program-specific occupational health, environmental health and hazardous waste issues to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Develop and conduct training, drills and exercises in campus security, emergency procedures and emergency operations to ensure employees are able to prevent, mitigate and/or recover from emergencies, crises or disaster as quickly as possible and the campus is in compliance with federal requirements.
Collect, analyze and maintain environmental health, occupational safety and hazardous waste data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Submit and report mandatory information to regulatory agencies to ensure permits, etc. are obtained and current and the campus is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Collect, maintain, analyze security data and create campus crime statistics, crime logs and security reports to ensure compliance with federal requirements (e.g., Clery Act) in a timely manner. Collect and report emergency management data to ensure after action reports are completed in a timely manner.
Investigate incidents, spills, injuries, accidents, mishaps and near-miss events; identify root cause(s); implement corrective actions; and evaluate to ensure such situations are prevented from reoccurring. Provide consultation for campus management and leadership prior to, during and after incidents, crisis, emergencies, or events ensuring recovery of critical operations as quickly as possible and restoration to a safe and secure environment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree.
Two (2) or more years of relevant work experience.
.Experience with occupational health and safety and environmental health regulations
(e.g., applicable OSHA, MNOSHA, EPA, MPCA regulations and/or NFPA standards and State of Minnesota State Fire and area building codes). 
Computer skills sufficient to use general office application/productivity software.
(e.g., computer operating system, e-mail, word-processing, database/spreadsheet, calendar/scheduling, presentation graphics, Internet browser and search software).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or graduate degree.
Five (5) or more years of relevant work experience.
Experience in risk management, business operations continuity planning, security/law enforcement operations, emergency management or related area.  
Experience in reviewing and evaluating work environments, identifying/recognizing potential environmental health hazards and evaluating and applying corrective measures.
Knowledge of FEMA and Homeland Security requirements sufficient to administer security and emergency management responsibilities.
Multiple professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Management (CHMM), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or course work in emergency management.
Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to a wide range of experiences, needs and concerns of population groups.
Effective communication skills in writing, speaking, and presenting information, procedures, and reports, including ability to collect and interpret data to support proposals for policies and procedures. 
Ability to multi-task in a two-campus environment.
Advanced Incident Command System training and FEMA course work.
Knowledge of Data Privacy Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
pertaining to student data privacy and admissions.
Knowledge of Federal and State regulations governing financial aid programs along with goals and objectives of the Financial Aid Office.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of private information according to law, rules, policies and procedures is essential.
Ability to hire, train and provide work direction of student workers.
Ability to work independently and work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to write and speak multiple languages.
