Business Manager

                   

  1. Education Level:  Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education, business management or accounting required; advanced degree preferred.
  2. Experience Desired: Five years of experience in one of the above fields, including at least three years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  3. Physical Requirements: Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent keyboarding, use of wrists, hands, fingers, speaking, typing and writing. 
  4. Other Requirements:  Frequent filing, sitting, standing and walking.  The ability to communicate verbally and in writing is also required.       

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  1. Is responsible to the superintendent of schools and through the superintendent, to the school board, for matters pertaining to the buildings and grounds department, transportation department, food services division, the business and accounting division and non-certified personnel.
  2. Manages the fiscal resources of the Yankton School District’s operating budget in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  3. Oversees all accounting and daily business activities with appropriate internal control framework including accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash management functions.
  4. Responsible for federal, state and local grant compliance as well as National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, including timely required claims and reporting.
  5. Supervises all payroll functions of the district, including employee benefits administration.
  6. Key resource to the Superintendent and Board of Education in development of the annual budget.
  7. Maintains inventory and asset records along with overseeing property, liability and worker’s compensation insurance.
  8. Attends and participates in school board meetings, maintains and accurate record of the actions and participants.
  9. Prepares and files all financial and related reports within prescribed timeframes.
  10. Arranges for and assists with auditing of all school district accounts and programs.
  11. Conducts school district elections as prescribed by state law.
  12. Supervises risk management for the school district.
  13. Approves rental of school facilities.
  14. Represents the school district professionally in local, regional, state and national affiliation and participation.
  15. Cooperates with all departments for effective and efficient results.
  16. Performs other duties, which will assist the superintendent and board in financial matters of the district.
